Common symptoms of a failing Range Rover air suspension

The most obvious sign is a vehicle that sits lower than normal, especially overnight or after sitting parked for a few hours. This is called bleed-down and is usually caused by a faulty air strut, a leaking valve block or a failing compressor that cannot maintain pressure.

Warning lights on the dashboard are another common indicator. The suspension warning light, or a message saying the air suspension is limited or unavailable, should not be ignored. In some cases the vehicle will default to a fixed ride height and disable the height adjustment feature entirely.

Unusual noises from the suspension, particularly a ticking or clicking sound when the compressor runs, can indicate the compressor is working harder than it should. Left unattended, a worn compressor will eventually fail completely.

The most common air suspension faults by model

On the Range Rover Sport, the rear air struts are the most frequent failure point. On the full-size Vogue, the valve block and height sensors are common culprits. The Evoque has a simpler system but the front struts and compressor are still regular maintenance items. The Discovery 4 and Discovery Sport also share similar air suspension architecture and we see the same failure patterns across those models regularly.
